February's Inspirational Quote

"One Hour at a Time"
~ Laurie Wallmark.

Dear Laurie,
You might not recall saying this and perhaps I won't remember the specifics but you are our inspiration for the rest of February and maybe even March.

You and I were on the phone and talking about how hard it is to write a novel and as usual I was whining and feeling sorry for my long-a$$ journey. And you told me about how you were working and how busy you were so you wrote your novel one hour at a time. Astounded I said, "You wrote your novel one hour at a time?" And you said, "Yup." And I thought, "Wow... ... ..."

Often times we think we need - or I think I need - huge chunks of time set aside so I can write. Do you do that too? What if we gave ourselves one hour of each day? If it turns into two, well then fine, but if not, at least you still had your One Hour at a Time. So that is the motto of the month, thanks to ours truly, Laurie Wallmark.

We love you, Laurie!

Dream in the Making

The Hunterdon County Children's Writers' Group, founded and directed by our fearless leader, Sheri Oshins, is becoming something so wonderful that I don't think even Sheri saw it coming. Those of us who wanted to write and/or illustrate have always had so many thoughts in our minds about children's books. Even though some of us may be practicing artists, we didn't have somewhere to go and learn and get exposure to what this big, wide world of children's books is all about.

I, for one, as a facilitator of one of the children's picture book groups, can speak for my group when I say ... we are SO excited!! What a learning curve! It's becoming real ... a bright, challenging and fascinating future filled with voices and images and children and animals. I could go on, but you get it.

I am truly grateful for this wonderful opportunity to follow a dream. So thanks to you, Sheri, and all my fellow facilitators and writing group members. I do believe we're on our way!

Oh Jeanne, That is wonderful. THIS is wonderful. I have chills. It is so amazing, the ripple effect we can cause. Someone says something, someone reacts, others follow.

Thank you so much!

Hi Jeanne,
Your 'Dream in the Making' post is inspiring! I'm just starting to get the hang of this blogging. What fun, the only problem is how addicting it is!

I told you Cathy! I knew you'd soon be like me - a blogger junky!
Go to my blog and check out all my favorite blogs. I think you might like some of them. Then go to Leeza's and check out her favoite blogs. She has mostly illustrator blog links, so I REALLY know you'll like those too.

Oh yeah, you're hooked!

Hi! I'm not sure where to post this, but I just read our handbook and I am really impressed--it's a great handbook with not only procedures for running the group as a whole but a whole handful of helpful hints for aspiring writers!
Thank you, Sheri, and all you facilitators, for working so hard for us all!
